The Scottish Highlands

We’ve been on holiday for a week up in the Scottish highlands. Over the week we have covered about 1200 miles and seen far too many things. Funnily enough given the terrible weather in England over the last week we had a lot of sun which was not what we expected. I’ll write some more later, for now here are some of the many photos taken on the journey.

We attended the very wet and muddy Outsider Festival with Heidi and Fawzia to see Crowded House perform. While it was a damp day we all had fun and thankfully the rain stopped before Crowded House came on stage.

We found our way to a number of ruined monuments, sets of standing stones and intact castles. As much as we saw there was more we missed out on.

We stayed most nights at Hostels and made our own dinner. One night we decided to go out for a meal but our chosen restaurant was booked up. Thankfully we were given a good recommendation for a restaurant in the village of Plockton and the meal was fantastic. This is the view from the main street of Plockton out over one of the prettiest harbours we saw on our trip.

We’ve always wanted to visit Eilean Donan Castle and we finally got there on this trip. It’s a bit of a clichéd view but it does look impressive.

A highlight of the trip was our visit out to some of the Islands off of Skye. This is the Isle of Canna, a bird life mecca.
